INSTRUCTIONS FOR SPA USE

1. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

  • Drain your spa a minimum of 4-6 times a year depending on usage.
  • Keep a second set of filter cartridges on hand. 
  • Do not use any petroleum based products to clean spa or spa cover.  Do not use dish detergent or anything caustic to clean spa or cover.
  • Use Clean & Perfect to clean cover, spa and cartridges.

2. DRAINING YOUR SPA

  1. Turn your breaker off.
  2. Attach your garden hose to the hose drain inside/outside of spa cabinet.
  3. Open the small valve on the hose drain.  Spa will drain by gravity.
  4. Clean your spa.  Remove your filter cartridges and clean them.  Put your dry, spare set of filters in the spa.  (Keep rotating your cartridges every time you drain).
  5. Disconnect your garden hose, recap the hose drain and shut small valve.
  6. Refill your spa by placing hose in skimmer.

    7.               FOR CATALINA SPA

  7. Bleed air from lines.  To do this, remove the panel to the left of the access panel.  Reach in; open the thumbscrews on top of pipe.  Turn them off when water trickles out.  If you have 2 pumps you will have 2 bleeder valves.  Make sure the push pull valves are pulled out.  If you have 2 pumps you will have 4 valves.

    8.                 FOR CAL SPAS

  8. In most cases, you will not need to bleed air from the spas.  On the chance that the spa should become air-bound, shut off breaker and loosen the locknut in front of the pump housing.  Once air has been expelled, tighten the locknut.
  9. Turn your breaker on.
  10. Balance your chemicals. (See Below)

3. WATER BALANCING

Ideal chemical ranges: 
Bromine - 2.0–3.0 (up to 5.0 is good)                                           
PH  - 7.4–7.8
Alkalinity - 120–140
Calcium Hardness - 180

  1. Balancing Chemicals when Refilling:
  2. Add Stain and Scale Control at the rate of one cap per 100 gallons of water.
  3. Following chart below:  Add Total A to raise alkalinity
                  PPM   (Measure in Tablespoons)

  1. Test water in several hours/next day to check Alkalinity reading.  If alkalinity is low, add Alkalinity Increaser according to chart.  If it is high, do nothing for now.  Once your alkalinity level is good, check your PH level.  If it is low, add UPH according to chart on back of bottle.  If it is high, do nothing for this week.  It should adjust itself down in a few days.  If PH is still high in a week, add PH Decreaser according to chart on back of bottle. 
  2. Adjust Calcium Hardness according to your water test.  Mix this chemical in water first before adding to spa.  Put water in pail first, then chemical.
  3. Add one cap of Granular Bromine.
  4. Fill Floater with 2-3 Bromine Tablets.
  5. Have your water tested by us in 1-2 weeks.

WEEKLY CHEMICAL BALANCING

  1. Test water.  Look for ideal readings.
  2. Adjust Alkalinity and PH as needed.
  3. Fill Floater with the equivalent of 2 Bromine Tablets.
  4. Add 1 ounce of Spa Perfect per 100 gallons. 
  5. If Bromine is low – add one cap of Granular Bromine

If Bromine is fine – add 1 bag of Spa Shock every other week.

4. SAFETY FEATURES

  • Your spa will turn off and throw the breaker if the spa temperature goes above 104 degrees.  Should this happen, reset your breaker, remove your cover and/or add cold water.  Spa should automatically turn on after spa temperature drops below 104 degrees.
  • Your spa will turn off after approximately 15 - 20 minutes of use.  You may turn it back on if you so desire.
  • Your spa blower will turn off after approximately 10 - 15 minutes.  You may turn it on if you so desire.  Sometimes you need to give it a few minutes before it will turn back on.
  • In the event of a power outage, your spa should turn on automatically.  If it does not or your control panel is scrambled, try resetting your breaker.
  • In the winter months, if your spa is equipped with the Standard and Economy-operating mode, and your spa is outdoors, leave it in the Standard setting.  This will prevent the water temperature from dropping drastically.  When in the Standard mode, should the water temperature drop below what you set, the heater will turn on.  In the Economy mode, should the water temperature drop below what you set, the heater will turn on only during one of the filtering cycles.
